Life coaching is a forward-focused partnership that helps you clarify what you want, understand what's getting in the way, and move forward with greater intention. It's rooted in the belief that you already have more wisdom within you than you may currently be able to access — and that the right questions, in the right space, can help you hear it.
Therapy works with the past — healing wounds, processing trauma, and addressing clinical mental health concerns. Coaching works with the present and future. If something from your past is showing up in your life today, we may notice it together — but we work with it as it relates to where you're going, not as something to diagnose or treat. If therapy is what you need, I'll say so honestly.
Executive coaching is typically focused on leadership performance — how you show up as a manager, how you navigate organizational dynamics, how you influence and lead others. While my background includes significant leadership and organizational experience, Lumel takes a different view: the patterns that show up in how you lead often have roots in other areas of your life — your relationship to yourself, your values, what you believe you deserve. Working on those things tends to make you a better leader anyway, but as a byproduct of becoming more whole, not as the primary goal.
Career coaching tends to be goal-specific — resume, job search, interview prep, career pivots. That's not what we do here. We may explore your relationship to work, what it means to you, and whether it aligns with who you're becoming — but those are different questions than 'how do I get the next job.'
Mentoring and advisory work typically involves someone with experience in your field sharing what they know — advising on a path forward, offering their perspective, telling you what they would do. Coaching is the opposite of that. My job is not to hand you a roadmap but to ask the questions that hold up a mirror — so you can see your own situation more clearly and find your own way forward. The wisdom in the room is yours. I'm just skilled at helping you access it.
Coaching tends to be a good fit if something in you is quietly saying this cannot be the rest of my life — a longing for something more that doesn't yet have language, a sense that you're functioning but not fully alive to your own life. You don't need to know what you want or have it figured out before you start. You just need a willingness to slow down, look inward, and engage with what's actually true for you.
It may not be the right fit if you're in acute crisis, actively dealing with trauma, or experiencing symptoms that need clinical support. In those cases, I'll always be honest with you and, if appropriate, help you find the right resource.
If you're not sure, the Sample Coaching Session is the best way to find out. You'll experience the work firsthand and know within the first conversation whether this feels right.
You don't need to have everything figured out — but having at least one area of your life that feels off, stuck, or ready for attention gives us a starting place. That might be a relationship, a transition, a pattern you keep noticing, or a quiet sense that something needs to change. We build from there.
What often happens is that what someone names as 'the problem' at the start turns out to be a doorway into something deeper — and that's exactly where the most meaningful work tends to happen.
Lumel's work does include a spiritual dimension — but not in the sense of a religion or a prescribed belief system. 'Something larger' looks different for everyone: a faith tradition, nature, creativity, a felt sense of meaning that's hard to name. People often find their way there on their own, through the work, without it ever feeling heavy or forced. No belief system required. No fixed path.
Every session is different, because you set the agenda. At the start of each session I'll ask what you want to focus on — what's most present, what feels most alive, what's ready to be explored. There's no fixed curriculum imposed from the outside, and no topic is off the table.
My work is grounded in Co-Active coaching methodology, developed by the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) — one of the most rigorous and widely respected coach training programs in the world. The Co-Active model is built on the belief that you are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole — not broken, not a project to be fixed. My job is not to hand you answers but to ask the questions that help you hear your own.
In practice, a session might include deep reflective conversation, exploration of a pattern or belief that's been showing up, work across the intellectual, emotional, physical, or spiritual dimensions of a situation, or simply space to think out loud with someone who is fully present and not invested in any particular outcome for you. Sessions are 60 minutes, held via Zoom.
I currently offer 3-month and 6-month coaching partnerships. A 3-month engagement is well-suited for someone who wants to focus on one specific area — a transition, a decision, a pattern they want to understand and shift. A 6-month engagement allows for deeper exploration across multiple areas of life — and often reveals how the same pattern shows up differently in different contexts, which is where
some of the most powerful work happens. The right fit depends on where you are and what you're ready for. We can talk through it together after your Sample Session.
Sessions are bi-weekly by default, with the option to meet weekly depending on your needs and the package you choose. One thing I've observed consistently: clients who choose a regular day and time — and protect that time — tend to go deeper and stay more engaged in the work between sessions. It's not a requirement, but it's a pattern worth knowing about. Sessions can always be moved when life requires it — the consistency is the intention, not the rigidity.
Yes — all sessions are held via Zoom, so I work with clients wherever they are. I'm based in Atlanta, Georgia and coaching clients worldwide.
Within 24 hours of each session, I post session notes to your private client portal — including your key insights and your fieldwork for the week. Fieldwork is how you take what you've discovered about yourself and put it into practice — out into the wild, as I like to say. It's where you transition from intellectually understanding something to actually embodying it and making it real. That's where the transformation happens.
I'm also available between sessions for brief check-ins by email or text. Occasionally I'll share a poem, article, or resource through your portal if something feels relevant to what we're working on together. The real work happens in the space between sessions — in the moments when something shifts quietly, a decision becomes clearer, or you notice yourself responding differently than you used to.
Yes. What you share in our sessions is held in strict confidence. I will not share your information with anyone without your written consent. There are a small number of standard exceptions — if I have reason to believe there is a risk of harm to you or someone else, if I am required to disclose by law or court order, or if illegal activity is involved. Your session notes and records are stored securely through Delenta, a professional practice management platform.
The Sample Coaching Session is a complimentary 30-minute session — approximately 20 minutes of real coaching followed by 10 minutes for questions. It's not a sales call. It's an opportunity for you to experience the work firsthand, and for us to find out together whether Lumel is the right fit for you. You don't need to prepare anything in advance. Just come as you are, with whatever is most present for you. That's always enough to start.
If we both feel it's a good fit, I'll share information about available packages and we'll find the right starting point for you. There's no pressure and no rush. The decision is yours, on your timeline.
Yes. I am fully bilingual and sessions can be conducted entirely in Spanish if that is your preference.
Las sesiones de coaching están disponibles en inglés o en español, según lo que te haga sentir más cómodo y apoyado.
Show up consistently and honestly. The clients who go deepest are the ones who come to sessions willing to say what's actually true — not what sounds good, not what they think they should be feeling, but what's real. A few things that tend to make a significant difference: choosing a consistent day and time for your sessions and protecting that time; engaging with your fieldwork between sessions — not as homework to complete, but as an invitation to notice; being willing to sit with discomfort rather than rushing past it; and trusting that the process works even when a session doesn't feel dramatic or conclusive — some of the most important shifts happen quietly, in the days after a session, not during it.
I ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or where a client arrives more than 15 minutes late, may be forfeited. I understand that life happens — I simply ask that you communicate as early as possible so we can find a solution together.
Each year, I reserve a small number of pro-bono coaching spots for individuals who are deeply committed to this work but do not currently have the means to invest in coaching. If you'd like to refer someone for consideration, please reach out directly at catherine@lumelcoaching.com.
